Block Party!

That’s the theme for this month’s Studio Calico kits.  As uaual, I purchased ALL of them + the card kit sub + the new PL sub.    As of today, I’ve made 19 cards from the Block Party Card kit.  I am sharing TWO of them today.

This is a CASE of Jen Jockisch’s card, which you can see here

This the second card.  I like to make cards in pairs.  I CASE the first one & change up the second one.  I’m hoping it helps me to grow.   I’m planning to use this “card” on a scrapbook page, so I guess I call this “scrapbook candy”.  LOL.

THIS is the kit page, with photos, so you can see which kits the items are from.  The only item I used in these two cards that are NOT in the Block Party kits is the background paper.  That paper is SU! Confetti White.

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a moo’valous day.

U R the Cat’s MEOW

This is a layout featuring the cat applique stained glass quilt Mom made and entered into
the Lincoln Days quilt show!  A gorgeous quilt.  Not sure the layout does it justice!

I used one of Sally’s fab sketches, SBSC293.  I changed it up a little bit.  And yeah, I know my “THE” is a little lopsided.  LOL.  Sliding right of the page, eh?  I can fix that!  I loved using the doily as a journaling “block”.

Hope you enjoyed the page AND the quilt.  Thanks for stopping by!  Have a moo’valous day!

Sophomore Art Project

I’m getting my scrap back on.  I pulled this set of pictures from Phillip’s sophomore art project.  Six pictures…and off I went to find a sketch.  I found 02.22.12 sketch from Let’s Scrap.  Then I went to my Studio Calico Summer of ’69 kits for supplies.  The main paper is the other side of the orange/pink/red star paper in the main kit. (bottom left hand side of the main kit picture)

I did go to my stash for two things – the tasteful trim die + basic black cardstock and the real red corduroy buttons & brads + white baker’s twine.   I also used my Dymo labeler, a Dear Lizzy date stamp and Studio Calico School life stamp set.  Everything else was from the kits.

Left page.  And yes, the titling goes across two pages.

Right page.

This was a create as you go title.  LOL.  I got worried there for a while.  I do like how it turned out.

I did not have ANY banners that looked good with this…and I did not want to create my own…and I wanted to use up these brads.   I laid everything out beforehand.  For the smaller banner, I used a saucer and made pencil marks for how many brads I had, then punched the holes and inserted the brads.  For the larger banner, I used a plate.  I’m really pleased how this turned out.

I pulled these SU! Real Red Corduroy Buttons & Brads from my stash.

Detail of the journaling card.  “Grade A+” stamped on the journaling card is from Studio Calico School Life stamp set.

I never thought these papers would go good with a Jason Hockey Mask.  LOL.  While I love the titling, my favorite element has to be the brad banner.

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a moo’valous day!

Invisible Band Aid People

I think I got four birds with one stone. LOL.

– Ways to Use It Challenge on Splitcoaststampers dot com WT390: make
something that would make someone SMILE!

– I’m using items from August Studio
Calico Summer of ’69 kit.

– Challenge with friends to use something I have not
used…Inked up SU! Word Play for the first time!

– Challenge with
friends to be inspired by Pinterest. (http://pinterest.com/pin/45528646203445217/).  I pin things & forget to use them…especially the craft inspiration items.  So, after getting the ways to use it challenge, I went to Pinterest for my inspiration!

And…I came up with this!

Doncha think this would make sone who feels bad…S M I L E ?  It makes me giggle.

I did not have any band aid colored band aids that I could use on this project…those had antibiotic stuff on ’em…and those are usually slippery. So…these are invisible Band Aid people. LOL.

As is my usual practice, I made two cards.  BUT…they turned out different cuz I forgot to trim the other side of the DSP panel.  I was glueing it down when I discovered that.  ahem…a tad bit late to fix.  So…presenting version #2.

DH likes version #2 better cuz I
put the eyes on crazy. LOL.

Hope today’s projects made you S M I L E !  Thanks for stopping by!  Have a moo’valous day!

Smile & Enjoy

I decided to participate in the 400th sketch challenge on Splitcoaststampers dot com.  It was “crafter’s choice”.  So I picked Sketch 379.  It is a great sketch to showcase some great designer paper from the August Studio Calico kit – Summer of ’69.  I made two cards.

No stamping what-so-ever.  I’m so not the frilly butterfly gal ok, but I love this paper.

Here’s a close-up of the washi tape stack + the stickers.

This is a stacked embellishment.  Took a label sticker + a large kalidescope sequin + a decorative brad.

I love to make my cards in pairs…and I think this one is my favorite.

I decided to check out the regularly scheduled challenge on Splitcoaststampers dot com.  It was the color challenge.  Rich Razzleberry, Lucky Limeade and Daffodil Delight!   So, I went to “my favorites” to see what I had saved to CASE…decided on SU! Inspired by Nature stamp set….and came up with this.

I used SU! markers to color the image, “huffed” on the colored image and stamped!

I really do like this stamped on the SU! Newsprint DSP!

The bow with a button in the middle was the “extra credit”.

Hope you enjoyed today’s project.  Thanks for stopping by!  Have a moo’valous day!

Adult Road Sign Game

OK.  Now that title…hmmm…didn’t come out quite right.  Let’s try that again.
Did you ever play a game as a child called the road sign game?  It’s a travel game using flashcards preprinted with various road signs.  The object is to look for the road signs that are on your flashcard.  When you find one of them, circle the sign on your flashcard.  As I sit in the back seat of the ’77 Malibu Classic with my brother, I hope to see more of the signs that are displayed on MY card than he does that are displayed on HIS card.  HAHA.  We do this on the way to Myrtle Beach and Kings Island.  But I disgress.
Mother’s Day my husband  and my son took me to Ryan’s for breakfast.  It was raining.  I had the camera out & was just taking pictures from the truck of the rain…and when we got to town, I noticed interesting road signs & stoplights…how much more interesting they were in the rain & wondered how the photos would turn out…
Take a look.

LEFT hand page.

Let’s move over to the RIGHT hand page.

And the double page spread…one more time!

Hope you enjoyed the pictures!   All items from Studio Calico July 2012 Elmwood Park Kit + Add-ons EXCEPT the following:  washi tape (Target), wood veneer cars (Studio Calico), wood veneer cameras (Studio Calico), die cut clouds (Heyday Collection; Studio Calico), clip (Stampin’ Up!), Road Sign Game flashcards.

Elmwood Park is Hot & Dry

Not sure about Elmwood Park…but it surely is hot & dry in Elizabethtown KY!  whew.

What’s this Elmwood Park stuff, you ask?  AH…Studio Calico July kit.  I went nuts.  LOL.  Ain’t that an understatement.  I purchased the main kit+ four add-on kits + extra patterned paper + stuff from the shop.  Six point one pounds of papercrafting goodies…right to my doorstep from Bowling Green KY.  woot!  PLUS I have a 3 inch stack of photos I just picked up from Walgreens.  WHOO HOO!  Sandwiches for supper last night AND again tonight.  😉  Good thing it’s hot.  Dale likes sandwiches for supper when it’s hot outside.  😉
Where was I?  Oh yes.  I used a sketch from Let’s Scrap (7-4-12).  The sketch featured a sunburst and a link to a tutorial to create your own sunburst from patterned paper!  I love it!  I stitched the edges of the papers down with a zig zag stitch…I love sewing on paper!  I will say, this double page spread took at least four hours.

The main page.

Here’s a close up of the zig zag stitching and the stacked paper & tin medallion in the midst of the sunburst!

I outlined around the title to make it stand out more. I never thought I would like…ahem…birds.  But these wood veneer birds from Studio Calico are so darn cute!   I saw these stacked on a sneak peek…and just could not resist using that idea in my layout!

The left page.

A close-up of the temperature ranges 12 hours apart.  I added the lettering to the photo & used a 9 to 5 tin pin.

Here’s a close up of the stacked star medallion.  Again, using die-cuts + buttons from the Studio Calico July Kit + Add-Ons.  The scallop trim was created using Stampin’ Up! Tasteful Trim die.

Cracked & Crunchy.  Tags & ampersand tin pin from 9 to 5 collection by October Afternoon.

I’m so loving the Studio Calico kits and the Let’s Scrap sketches.  I’m super excited about the possibilities…I hope I can continue to find time to scrap.

Counterfeiting Add-On Kits – NEWPORT from Studio Calico

I fell in love with Studio Calico kits.   This month’s main kit is So Cal.  I have no worries on the main kit selling out because I subscribe.  HOWEVER, for any of the four monthly add-on kits…that’s another story.  (sigh)  Well…I did get the add-on kit I wanted last month…and when it arrived…I…ahem…thought it was too expensive for what I got.  Then I wasn’t fast enough to get the add-on kit I wanted for June.  Now, it all sounds like I have bad vibes….NO NO!  I decided from this point forward, I will counterfeit the add-on kits I liked…using stuff from my stash!

Here’s my counterfeit NEWPORT add-on kit.

My Counterfeit Newport Add-On Kit.

Here’s my inspiration, Newport Add-On Kit for June 2012 from Studio Calico.

Inspiration Kit from Studio Calico Newport Add-On

THE COMPARISON.

Chevron paper – created using SU! DSP, PTI Chevron Die and Xyron.
Yellow scallop paper – created using SU! DSP and SU! Tasteful Trims die.
Butterflies are embossed and die cut from an older SU! canvas die cut set using Beautiful Wings embosslit.  Some of the canvas die cuts I had already applied Fashion District rub ons.  This created some really interesting butterflies.
Journaling card – created from a 3 x 5 index card, scrap cardstock and a banner from another kit + SU! heart punch.
I was really stumped on those green jewel things.  They are “crystal candy dots”.  I had to google that.  They are like dew drops, only they look like many dew drops glued on a dome.  They are faceted.  The pink jewels in my kit will provide that sort of sparkle the “crystal candy dots” provided in the inspiration kit.
My Big Shot got lots of use!  I love creating my own thing…I have just added the add-on to my main So Cal kit!  And I’m soooo pleased to see how it all coordinates.  WOW!   This was sooooo much fun.
So…whatcha think?  Did I do good?
